ICPB Eidul-Adha 1441 (2020) Announcement: Eidul-Adha on Friday July 31st, 2020

Assalaamu alaikum wa rahmatullaahi wa barakaatuhu dear brothers and sisters,

As there has been no confirmed moon-sighting, we will complete the month of Dhul-Qidah as thirty days. Thus, the month of Dhul-Hijjah begins on Wednesday July 22nd, 2020 and Eidul-Adha will be on Friday July 31st, 2020.

Eid Salah is to be observed at home as the masjid remains closed due to the ongoing pandemic. What follows are summarized points related to Eidul Salah:

Timing of Eid Salah

Eid Salaah is performed on the day of Eid in the time period after the sun rises in the sky to the height of a spear (held at arm-length) over the horizon. This is approximately 20 minutes after sunrise. The time for performing the Eid Salah extends until midday right before the sun is at its zenith.

How to Perform Eid Salah at Home

The ‘Eid Prayer consists of two rak’ahs. After saying the opening takbeer (“Allaahu akbar”) to begin the prayer, there are 6 more takbeeraat (saying “Allaahu Akbar”) before beginning recitation of Qur’an. The hands are raised with each of the takbeeraat.

In the second rakah, after saying “Allaahu Akbar” to rise from prostration, there are 5 more takbeeraat (saying “Allaahu Akbar”) before beginning recitation of Qur’aan. The hands are raised with each of the takbeeraat.

In the first rak’ah after Surah Al-Fātihah, Surah Al-A’lā can be recited. In the second rak’ah, after Surah Al-Fātihah, Surah Al-Ghāshiyah can be recited.

Or the imām can recite Surah Qāf after al-Faatihah in the first rak’ah and Surah Al-Qamar after al-Faatihah in the second rak’ah.

The rest of the prayer is completed as usual, without a khutbah/sermon delivered afterwards as there is no khutbah/sermon if Eid Salah is performed at home.

May Allaah grant us and you all safety and well-being. For more details on the rulings, Sunan, and virtues of Eid, please refer to the following resources:

The Month of Dhul-Hijjah and Fasting the Day of Arafah

The sacred month of Dhul-Hijjah (the 12th month of the Islamic calendar) begins on Wednesday July 22nd, 2020. Yaumul-Arafah (Day of Arafah, 9th of Dhul-Hijjah) will be on Thursday July 30th, 2020. It is highly encouraged for those people not making Hajj to fast on that day, as the Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, said regarding fasting on that day:

“It expiates the sins of the past year and the coming year.” (Sahih Muslim)

Please refer to the article below for important information on the virtues of the first ten days of Dhul-Hijjah, which are the best days in the world in the sight of Allaah, and in which the reward for righteous deeds are increased. ICPB Coronavirus (COVID-19) Advisory (UPDATED: July 13th, 2020)

ICPB Logo

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

One of the primary objectives of Islamic law is the preservation of life. Allaah said in the Noble Qur’an:

وَلَا تُلْقُوا۟ بِأَيْدِيكُمْ إِلَى ٱلتَّهْلُكَةِ

Do not throw yourselves into destruction. [Al-Baqarah 2:195]

Florida has shattered the U.S. record for the most new daily cases of coronavirus in any state throughout the duration of this pandemic, reaching more than 15,000 new cases in one day alone.

In light of the recent increased spread of the novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) and in accordance with the established Islamic principle: Warding off a harm takes precedence over bringing about a benefit (دفع الضرر أولى من جلب المصلحة), we have taken the precautionary measure to temporarily close ICPB for all Prayers, including the Jumu’ah (Friday) Prayer, effective immediately (July 13th, 2020).

After placing one’s trust and reliance in Allaah Almighty, we advise all Muslims to take heed of the instructions and guidelines issued by the proper authorities as it pertains to this pandemic. These instructions include: Washing hands often with soap and water. Avoiding close contact with people who are sick. Keeping distance of six feet from others in public. Covering your mouth and nose with a mask/face covering in public.

This is a time for Muslims to turn to Allah, place their reliance in Him, seek His forgiveness and call upon Him sincerely to remove this calamity.

وَقَالَ رَبُّكُمُ ٱدْعُونِىٓ أَسْتَجِبْ لَكُمْ

And your Lord says, ‘Call upon Me; I will respond to you.’ [Ghaafir 40:60]

May Allaah grant us all patience and wellbeing during these times.

ICPB Eidul-Fitr 1441 (2020) Announcement: Eidul-Fitr on Sunday May 24th, 2020

Assalaamu alaikum wa rahmatullaahi wa barakaatuhu dear brothers and sisters,

As the new crescent for the month of Shawwaal was not sighted, we will complete the month of Ramadan as thirty days. Thus, Eidul-Fitr will be on Sunday May 24th, 2020.

Eid Salah is to be observed at home as the masjid remains closed due to the ongoing pandemic. Likewise the masjid will not be able to accept or distribute Zakatul-Fitr this year, so we encourage you all to fulfill the obligation of offering Zakatul-Fitr as food to Muslims in need individually. What follows are summarized points related to Eidul Salah and offering Zakatul-Fitr:

Timing of Eid Salah

Eid Salaah is performed on the day of Eid in the time period after the sun rises in the sky to the height of a spear (held at arm-length) over the horizon. This is approximately 20 minutes after sunrise. The time for performing the Eid Salah extends until midday right before the sun is at its zenith.

Zakaatul-Fitr

As the masjid remains closed, ICPB is not able to accept or distribute Zakatul-Fitr this year. We encourage you all to fulfill the obligation of offering Zakatul-Fitr individually. The head of the household should offer one Prophetic sā’ (صاع) per person of the household of staple food (e.g. rice, corn, millet and so on) and deliver it directly to Muslims in need. A sā’  is approximately 2.4kg (5.3 lbs). Zakatul-Fitr is to be delivered to the poor before Eid Salah on the day of Eid, or it can be delivered a day or two before the ‘Eid.

A description of the Eid Salah at home & Zakatul-Fitr

Assalaamu alaikum wa rahmatullaahi wa barakaatuhu dear brothers and sisters,

We ask Allaah to grant you success in all that He is pleased with in what remains of this blessed month. The month of Ramadan is passing quickly, and soon inshaa-Allaah we will be sighting the moon for the month of Shawwaal and celebrating Eidul-Fitr.

This message concerns the observance of this year’s Eidul-Fitr Salah. Due to the ongoing pandemic and public health concern, ICPB remains closed. Following the verdicts of Islamic scholars, Eid Salaah under these circumstances is to be performed at home with your family. What follows are summarized points about how Eid Salaah is performed at home:

The moon sighting has been confirmed; therefore, Taraweeh begins tonight, Thursday April 23rd, 2020 and Ramadan fasting begins Friday April 24th, 2020.

Due to the ongoing COVID-19 Corona virus pandemic, ICPB continues to remain closed. We encourage you all to observe the Taraweeh prayers in your homes with your family. In an authentic hadeeth collected by Imam An-Nasaa’ee, the Messenger of Allaah, صلى الله عليه و سلم , said:

“There has come to you Ramadaan, a blessed month, in which Allaah has made it obligatory to fast. During it the gates of Paradise are opened and the gates of Hellfire are closed, and the rebellious devils are chained. In it is a night (Laylatul-Qadr) which is better than a thousand months. He who is deprived of its good has truly been deprived.” (Reference: Saheeh An-Nasaa’ee)

May Allaah accept our fasting and prayers. We ask Allaah to make this a very beneficial Ramadan for all of us.

ICPB Coronavirus (COVID-19) Advisory

ICPB Logo

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

Given the rapidly changing situation regarding the COVID-19 pandemic, ICPB has been communicating with the City of North Palm Beach for the latest developments surrounding our community. Ensuring the health, protection and wellbeing of all our ICPB congregants, guests and neighbors are of utmost importance to our administration, and we are taking the current health risks from this pandemic very seriously. We are closely monitoring for updates and recommendations from local, state and national agencies, including the CDC and WHO. Please kindly consider, that as the current situation changes and evolves daily, our plans and strategy to maintain a safe environment and sustain ICPB operations also evolves daily. After reviewing the recommendations of our Islamic Scholars, as well as the important advice from our community and public health leaders, we have determined the urgent need to completely close down the ICPB Masjid. This means all Masjid activities including the five daily congregational prayers, Friday Jumuah prayers, weekly classes and weekend Islamic school, will all be canceled until further notice.

Please keep in mind that the religious and moral obligation which takes precedence over all other objectives is the protection and preservation of human life. This is why acts of worship in the Masjid can be temporarily suspended in order to avoid life-threatening dangers such as this Coronavirus pandemic.  It is also important to understand the context behind the shutdowns of schools, restaurants and the thousands of stores across the country. It is to slow the spread of the virus to a rate that the healthcare system can manage. There are only so many hospital beds and ICU’s in every community hospital, and this pandemic has the potential to overwhelm their capacity. Thus, it is our duty to cooperate and adhere to guidelines pertaining to density control, social distancing and recommendations by the CDC for the cleaning of hands and disinfecting of surfaces.

I would like to thank the ICPB administration, who along with the support of our brothers and sisters, have done a tremendous job planning and responding to this pandemic for ICPB. Let us be reminded to use the time during this trial to increase in the worship of Allah. As an alternative to weekly classes in the masjid, ICPB will broadcast weekly classes live via www.palmbeachmuslims.com  every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday soon after Maghrib prayer. In place of Friday Jumuah Prayer, you will now pray four rak’ats of Dhuhr prayer at home.

We thank everyone for their cooperation. We will continue to closely monitor this situation and update the community.

JazakAllahkhayr,

Sharif El-hosseiny
